Petco: Friend or Foe to the Animals

My husband and I recently took a trip to Petco to compare cages for our little gerbil Fish Dog and were appalled to find two white, red-eyed guinea pigs in a 10 gallon fish tank! One had injuries sustained from another guinea pig resulting in an injured ear, face and nose.

When confronting the salesperson about this poor guinea pig, he said that he was picked on by other guinea pigs and the two guinea pigs weren't selling. I then asked him that if he is being picked on by other guinea pigs, then why is he paired with another one in a space that is meant to be for a fish and the size of a shoe box?

Needless to say I was completely disgusted and saddened by this sight and having to leave these poor guinea pigs in Petco. I decided that I wasn't going to let this cruel act of animal abuse go unnoticed, so I immediately got on my computer and reported them into PETA.

I now have a different view of "pocket pets" such as guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils and mice and how people can so often take them for granted and not give them the proper love and care that they deserve--even if it is a big corporation such as Petco.
