The Invisible Monkey--Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I'm not even online very long when I see this interesting article pop up on Yahoo! about PETA attacking Dodge for using a monkey in one of their commercials. The famous animal rights group attacked Dodge for the monkey in the commercial due to "the well-documented abuse that young chimpanzees and orangutans suffer in the entertainment industry." Now I can agree with this fact (especially if you've ever been to a circus or seen the undercover videos on PETA) but on the other hand, the entertainment industry, particularly the movie industry has come a long way in making sure that animals are treated properly and many dogs and cats that are used in films are even rescued from homeless shelters so I applaud them.

However, I can see their point with the monkey and how did Dodge respond? By making an additional commercial with an "invisible monkey." From a public relations standpoint, do you think this was a good idea or will this give more ammunition for PETA to strike back at Dodge? It's a good spin on Dodge's end to take a negative comment and turn it into something humorous and people will more than likely respond to the funny video than to PETA's comments.
