When I saw this posting on my social media group website on Linkedin I had to scratch my head and ponder, "Why on earth would someone do that?" I believe that whoever decides to not par-take in networking sites like Linkedin really don't understand the joys the world of social media can bring to your personal and professional life.
Living in a world of wanting everything now and "it's our way or the highway," people can get inpatient or lose interest in social media when they don't get results right away. Like Linkedin, social media is what you put into it. It's not what social media can do for you--it's how you use social media as a tool and a communications medium to get your message out to the world.
On the other hand, I can see why this person would get frustrated and say that Linkedin has done nothing for him or her and delete their profile. I am new to Twitter and have similar feelings. While I see other people who have thousands of followers, I only have a few (OK two to be honest.)
Again, this is when you have to look at social media and programs like Twitter and Linkedin, as a seed planted in the earth. In order for the seed to grow, you have to water it and nurture it to really see it blossom into a beautiful tree or flower. The same can be said about social media: If you don't contribute to it, then you'll never see it bloom to its full potential.
